The Secure Casualty System (SCS) Rescue Bag

The SCS is an all season casualty care system, developed over several years by Paul Rosher (Rocais-Dubh Designs) from the Skye Mountain Rescue Team. It is the result of hundreds of hours of trials and training, using several prototypes, with Scottish mountain rescue teams and also during his winter membership of the Yosemite Search and Rescue Team during 2002 – 2003 .

Benefits of the SCS bag
  1. The SCS is fast in action. A casualty can be safely ‘loaded’ within a minute or two (consistent with required injury management).

  2. The casualty is comfortable, and safely and securely attached to the stretcher, which can then be managed in any of the usual ways - helicopter winching or lowering down cliff faces.

  3. The SCS restricts casualty movement during transit. The casualty is never constrained by tight strapping, which means that injury sites and outer insulation are never compromised - this is a unique feature in casualty bag design.

  4. Casualty access during rescue is freely available.

  5. The SCS bag can be securely fitted to virtually any of the stretchers likely to be used, and certainly all those used for mountain rescue.
