Berwyn bindings have been used for years by many notable expeditions to both poles and throughout polar lands. They are principally used with mutluks, which, by their very nature, are not intended for use when great ski control is required.
Years ago Berwyn bindings were made in a white plastic. These were very robust. For some reason the type of plastic was changed, first to brown (they broke very easily), then to black (they still broke but less easily), and finally now to grey. The grey bindings have so far (over the last two years) had less breakages, and these are probably mostly explained by inexperience or use of inappropriate footwear (i.e. too rigid).
The problem seems to have been sorted. However, it is wise to take a few spare heels within a group just in case.
