Introductory Rock
The starting point, if you have little or no experience of rock climbing, or, if you have only climbed indoors. This course aims to get you climbing confidently and provide you with a solid foundation in the skills essential for climbing rock in the mountain environment.
These crag based rock climbing courses are held in the Derbyshire Peak District. Here the gritstone edges stretch for miles and offer a wealth of highly accessible climbing. The sound, rough Grit, is renowned for it's friction and offers varied climbing at all grades of difficulty, spiced with a strong history.
The Course covers
- Coaching in movement on rock and climbing techniques.
- Choice of equipment.
- Use of harnesses, knots and rope handling.
- Belaying & belay systems.
- Holding falls & lowering.
- Setting up top ropes.
- Selecting anchors & placing protection
- Abseiling safety.
- Communication.
- Guidebooks & route choice
In process you can expect to climb some of the Peak's classic routes. Each day's venue is chosen taking into account the weather and individual requirements. You could find yourself at one of the famous edges like Stanage, Froggatt and Burbage, or a less well known, less frequented spot.
