The Traverse of the Cullin Ridge

The traverse of the Cullin ridge is a mountaineering adventure without equal in the British Isles. It is possible to complete the traverse in one long day, but the inclusion of a bivouac adds a dimension that is uncommon in these Isles. A delightful way to begin is to go in by boat from Elgin. This gets you on the ridge relatively quickly with none of the trudge of the Glen Brittle or the Sligahan approaches, while starting from the south gives the best of the rock climbing without the contrivance of reversing direction to include the Tooth or Inaccessible Pinnacle.

May is a good month to attempt the traverse, with often the best though still unpredictable weather, few midges and drinking water still available at places on the ridge.
