Outer shell options
Important considerations are;
- previous experience of outdoor clothing and preferences
- personal physiology
- anticipated activity levels/wear resistance required
- weather: anticipated temperature extremes; wet and/or dry cold
- price
The following are good options to consider.
- Paramo Aspira jacket/smock/Salopettes/trousers
- Snowsled jacket or smock
- Rab ‘Extreme’ or ‘Expedition’ range of garments
- Rab ‘Summit Storm’ or ‘Batura’ jacket
| Dry cold/high windchill | Wet cold/high windchill | |
|---|---|---|
| High to low activity | 1/2/3 | 1/3 |
| Low activity | 1/2/3/4 | 1/3/4 |
High loft clothing
Down and synthetic fill clothing garments can be classed as both ‘thermal’ and ‘outer’ clothing, but are usually too warm to use other than in low activity situations. Down is useless if it gets wet, although some garments are available with fully waterproof outer layers (see above for wet cold)
Snowsled does not stock these items, although we do have some samples; please enquire for lead times.
